Superwoman

She is invincible.
She's intelligent, beautiful, kind, sensitive.
She’s exquisitely disguised.
To the world, she is Superwoman.

She's the friend that everyone wants
Because she'll listen to the deepest woes
And always give out her love and compassion.
Why? Because she's Superwoman.

She pours out everything she is and has
Because she needs the acceptance of being needed.
She bestows her strength upon everyone but herself, and she doesn't stop-- she can't stop-- even when she's been emptied.
Why? Because she's Superwoman.

She bears every burden of those who surround her
Because she can't bear the thought of being alone.
She'll carry the heaviest of loads without a word of complaint.
Why? Because she's Superwoman.

She doesn't need anyone to notice that her composure is merely an eggshell.
She doesn't need anyone to notice that it's cracking under the weight.
She doesn't need someone to see past her masquerade and realize that she's collapsing.
Why? Because she's Superwoman.

She gives away all of her sympathy
But, of course, she never needs any in return.
She doesn’t need anyone to know that she’d give anything just to have someone care.
Why? Because she’s Superwoman.

She doesn’t need anyone to know that she hates being alone
Because when she is, tears and breaths become one in the same.
She doesn’t need anyone to hold her together when her sorrows rip her apart.
Why? Because she’s Superwoman.

She doesn’t need anyone to notice that she hasn’t been okay in a while
And she, of course, doesn’t need to be okay.
She only needs to keep hiding the sorrow that rob her of more hope with every passing moment.
Why? Because she’s Superwoman.

When she stares at the ground, she doesn’t need anyone to realize that she’s only trying to hide her tears.
She doesn’t need someone to lift her face and chase the sadness away.
She doesn’t need someone to put their arm around her and tell her that the cloudless blue sky is infinitely more beautiful than the ground.
She doesn’t need a selflessly optimistic companion; she needs someone who will keep pelting her with more of what she’s already withstanding.
Why? Because she’s Superwoman.

She doesn’t need someone to knock down her sky-high walls.
She doesn’t need someone to shatter the all-consuming illusion.
She doesn’t need anyone to break through the façade of perfection and find the broken person hidden behind it.
Why? Because she’s Superwoman.

She doesn’t need anyone.
She needs to be invincible.
She needs to be Superwoman.
Why?
