Get out of the road.

You.

You were a speck in my rearview mirror. You were mere moments from disappearing from it entirely, and I was moments from forgetting… I was only a split second from moving on for good.

A year ago, my life was in pieces, all because of you. You were the one who was never truthful, and you led me into what you knew would be a hopeless endeavor. But still you built up my hopes and let me believe that there would be something to fulfill them. But in reality, you knew the whole time that you’d be the first to shatter my innocent heart. You knew that you wouldn’t be around, so you cut me off before too much happened. And in any normal situation, I would’ve avoided you. I would have let go and I would have moved on immediately. Instead, I had no choice but to see you every single day until you were finally gone.

Do you understand how agonizing that was? No, you don’t, and you never will. Remember those hopes you built up? Well, you kept building them up even after you had symbolically cut me off. You acted like something more would come of it, when all the while you knew that it would end up in absolutely nothing except a broken-hearted shadow of a girl that you’d leave behind. How could you do that? You led me on, you charmer. You knew I couldn’t resist, and you took advantage of it. You couldn’t leave me alone. Why? Maybe you wanted to inflate your ego. Maybe some sick part of your soul enjoyed watching me suffer. I don’t know and I don’t care. But you, you DID know, and you didn’t do a thing about it but watch me sink lower with every passing day.

Now here you are, back in this town, and I hope you have no intention of re-entering my life in any manner. For heaven’s sake, give me what you didn’t a year ago… give me your absence and let me be. Please don’t make me fight my emotions again, because they’ll win, and I’ll lose an entire year of precious progress. My heart is finally whole again, and you know I’m not strong enough to hold it together if you try to come around again. Please, don’t talk to me. Don’t pretend that we’re friends.

It was all an act. You pretended not to know that I was falling apart because I still had to be around you, and you pretended that everything was just perfect even when you knew I was wilting. I was pretending I was fine, and I was pretending you were a fantastic friend. I believe it’s about time we face the realities that you will only ever bring me down. What’s real is we’re going in opposite directions in every way possible, and it’s only best that we not even try to get along. I can’t, and you know it. So do me the favor of staying out of my life, and I’ll do you and myself the favor of moving on once and for all, and rest assured that I won’t stop until I can’t see you in the rearview mirror anymore.
