Sunday morning. 9:30 AM. There he was. Sitting in the lobby of my building, computer in his lap. Looking focused but at the same time like he didn't have a care in the world. He was wearing a white t-shirt and gray shorts, nothing spectacular. But something about him made me almost stop.
I thought about sitting beside him and striking up a conversation. I already know his name because we met sometime last week. I doubt he remembers me. I walk through the lobby, knowing that if I stop, I'll be late meeting my cousin to go to church. So I simply stare as I walk, but he doesn't look up. Doesn't notice that I'm walking deliberately slow.
Sometimes I take the stairwell that makes my path longer just because I know there's more of a chance I'll see him. Is that pathetic? Probably. But do I care? Not really. I'm in a new place, and I'm meeting new people, and I want to feel something again. Why should I wallow in the vacuum of emotion that plagues the past two years of my life? Isn't it okay to think of someone in a way other than a friend? Is it okay to want to be attracted to them?
I just want to know that my heart's still alive somehow... and maybe shorts and a t-shirt are a start.
