The truth speaks louder than anything.

I really would like to cling to hope in life. I would like to think that, in the end, everything will be just fine and dandy. But obviously, reality doesn’t always work that way. People hurt each other, and they aren’t willing to forgive each other. Relationships are shattered, and the people involved are changed for the worse, as are the people who surrounded them.

It’s a nasty thing, betrayal is; lies and deception can have an awful lot of power. Attempting to conceal the truth will never end well. So, when you begin to lie, you begin to chip away at the hope of those around you.

Eventually, the truth will come out, whether you want it to or not. What happens then? The illusion is gone, and you’re exposed. The truth that you tried to ignore is brought into the scrutinizing light of day. It spreads to the people around you, and it hits them harder than anything else ever could. Before you know it, everything is changing and crumbling to the ground, and there’s not a single thing you can do to stop it.

You could keep up the illusion, but what’s the use? The truth is out, the damage has already been done and it can’t be reversed. There’s no turning back now. The ones who trusted you will argue with themselves, trying to figure out if they’ll ever be able to forgive you. The trust they had in you filled a place in their hearts, and you drained it dry in the very instant that they discovered the painfully horrendous truth. Now they’re the ones left wondering how, and if, they can ever try to let you fill it again.

So, if you look a little deeper and look at the people outside of yourself, you’ll see that lying to one person doesn’t just affect that one human being. It affects you. And another three people. Or even twelve. Or more.

Now, I hope you’re asking yourself if lying was worth this. All of this. Do you regret not telling the truth before the lie ate you alive? Do you think the truth would have hurt even if it had come out a long time ago? Yes. Yes, it still would have been painful. But the fact that you kept it buried for so long… well, that only makes the hurt deeper and makes the empty places even more difficult for you to EVER fill again.

Do you regret it now?
